Trafford Housing Trust begins Davyhulme homes build
Trafford Housing Trust and London housing association L&Q have started on site with their first joint development, of 45 flats at Spinning Gate, Davyhulme.
Spinning Gate will be built under the Trust’s Laurus Homes brand, and will be delivered for shared ownership, and rent-to-buy.
The scheme has received £1.2m from the Homes & Communities Agency, and is also funded by profits from the market sale of other Laurus Homes projects.
The Spinning Gate site is close to local landmark The Nag’s Head pub, and was historically a bowling green and, more recently, the premises of a second-hand car dealership.
The development is scheduled for completion in April 2018. The flats were designed by BTP Architects, and Seddon is the contractor.
Spinning Gate is the first of several projects planned under the partnership between the Trust and L&Q, announced last year, which aims to deliver 2,000 new homes across Greater Manchester and the North West over the next four years.
Larry Gold, deputy chief executive of Trafford Housing Trust, said: “It’s very exciting to see the first spade in the ground as a result of our collaboration with L&Q, and even more so that we see our profit-for-purpose approach bringing affordable housing for Trafford residents.
“Over the coming years, we hope to speed up the building of new homes across the North West with our partners, and from applying profit-for-purpose. The Spinning Gate development is an excellent place to start.
“Trafford Housing Trust sees its role as more than simply a developer, we have a wider responsibility to create places where people want to live and that process builds sustainable communities.”
