Trafford Centre readies wrecking ball for hotel

A former Premier Inn close to the retail complex is to be knocked down to curb vandalism and antisocial behaviour at the vacant site.

Part of the Trafford Centre estate, the Coach House at Wilderspool Wood has been vacant since last year when Premier Inn’s lease expired.

Now, plans have been lodged to have the 34,000 sq ft building torn down to “remove the risk” of continued vandalism and anti-social behaviour, according to a cover letter prepared by Profectus Town Planning.

Subject to planning approval, the demolition work could begin in November and take around two months.

Contractor P McGuinness & Co has been appointed to carry out the job.

Premier Inn operates another two hotels close to the Trafford Centre.  One is located off Old Park Lane, a short distance from the one due to be demolished. Another can be found slightly further North.

Hopefully they’ll remove the foundations and re-plant some of the trees that were removed when it was built.

A shame actually, it’s a really high quality scheme from the late 90s and seems a chronic waste/environmental disaster.

What a waste of a building – why not turn it into something useful – vandalism is a poor excuse to have it demolished

It’s affordable housing that we need, we have so many hotels in Greater Manchester

Drop the lot for me.

How dare a private company knock down a disused building that was a bad idea in the first place. What will the vandals do now? I have no positive suggestions, I’m just exercising my right to moan.

Not a good advert for sustainability is it?

Its actually a very gorgeous building and could very easily be turned into an event venue with hotel room

That’s a shame – I have some wonderful memories of that hotel.
