Total buys in Crewe, plots industrial units

The Chester-based industrial developer has bought the 2.8-acre former For Farmers manufacturing and warehousing facility on Crewe Gates Industrial Estate to redevelop into a 54,000 sq ft industrial scheme.

Livestock feed manufacturer For Farmers closed its Crewe site last year to consolidate its operations.

Total Developments bought the site on Fourth Avenue off-market for an undisclosed sum and plans to create a four-unit scheme.

The developer has submitted plans to Cheshire East Council to build two 10,000 sq ft units, one 20,000 sq ft unit and a single 14,000 sq ft unit.  C4 Projects is the architect, planning consultant and project manager for the scheme.

Agency Legat Owen acted for Total in the acquisition and For Farmers was unrepresented.

Matt Pochin, director at Legat Owen, said: “This site represents the only development plot available in Crewe that can immediately meet the demand from SMEs for high-quality, new-build accommodation in the area.”

Jonathon Beeson, director at Total Developments, added: “We acquired this third site in Crewe building on the success of the 55,000 sq ft Orion Park and 170,000 sq ft Apollo Park, both of which we acquired, built, let and sold.”

Demolition and site clearance is expected to start in November with the units available by next summer, Beeson added.

Knights Solicitors was Total’s legal advisor.
