Torus breaks ground on affordable homes

Construction work has started on Torus’s 28-unit affordable housing scheme in Eastham.

Lead contractor Cruden Group has broken ground at the 2.25-acre site off Lyndale Avenue, which will see the construction of a mix of two-, three- and four-bedroom detached and semi-detached properties.

Four of the homes will be let on affordable rent, while the rest will be sold under shared ownership.

The development is situated on the site of the former Lyndale School, which closed in 2016 and was demolished by Wirral Council in 2017.

Torus submitted its application in December 2018 and the plans were approved in June 2019.

Last year, Torus pledged to invest £750m in building 5,300 homes in the North West over the next five years.

Chris Bowen, managing director of Torus Developments, said: “Lyndale has been at the heart of Eastham’s community for years and we are working to honour that legacy by creating high-quality, affordable homes for people in the area.

“This project is another step on our journey to providing modern homes that will serve the people who live and work in Eastham, and the Wirral, for many years to come.”

John McCall Architects is the architect on the project.
