As development activity has returned, so too have the budgets to pay for swanky artist’s impressions of the proposed schemes. Here are 10 of the best from the past 12 months, setting the bar high for the completed projects to match the vision.
- In March, Manchester Science Partnerships, a consortium led by Bruntwood, announced plans to develop new life science facilities at the 400-acre Alderley Park in Cheshire | CGI by Planit-IE
- Elliot Group started on site in June on the £130m refurbishment and redevelopment of a Liverpool dockland site which includes the listed Heap’s Mill, designed by Falconer Chester Hall | CGI by Infinite 3D
- In August Allied London submitted a planning application for its £1.3bn redevelopment of the 13-acre Old Granada Studios site, renamed St John’s, with 50-storey towers, low-rise apartments, and the £110m Factory | CGI by SimpsonHaugh & Partners
- The grade two-listed Preston Bus Station is set to be converted in a £13m youth centre designed by John Puttick Associates who were named as lead architect in August

- In September Salford City Council approved 1,200 apartments across four 26-storey blocks by X1 Developments and Knight Knox at MediaCityUK | CGI by Our Studio
- North Point Global, Blok Architecture and PHD1 Construction were granted planning permission in December for a £200m extension to Liverpool’s Chinatown on Great George Street, with apartments, offices and hotel | CGI by Uniform
