Together Housing plans 68 homes on Blackburn’s Shadsworth Estate

A mix of apartments and houses are planned at Knuzden Gateway as a £45m plan to revive the 1950s estate gathers pace.

Together Housing, which owns 800 properties on Blackburn’s Shadsworth Estate, has lodged plans with the local council to build 68 homes where 28 dwellings are in the process of being demolished.

Together is working with Place Capital Group to draw up plans for the 100% affordable scheme, which forms part of proposals to improve the estate.

The Knuzden Gateway scheme comprises 28 social rent units and a mix of one- and two-bed apartments in the form of maisonettes, as well as three- and four-bed houses.

The project, located to the north west of the estate off Staffa Crescent, is the second phase of work to come forward as part of the Shadsworth revamp.

The first phase features a youth hub and improvements to the local park. In addition, seven houses and 18 flats will be built on the site of the former Gleneagles Court.

MCAU is leading on design and Made it Together is the planning consultant.

Too small, we need to start building bigger houses

I’m sure there was an article three years ago saying that all of Shadsworth was being regenerated and upgraded but this is the first bit to be moved forward? Maybe it’ll be done by 2030-something.
