THT working up plans for first Stretford Mall homes
The housing association is to deliver around 220 homes on a cleared part of the 27-acre regeneration zone fronting Chester Road, according to sources.
Trafford Housing Trust is understood to be drawing up plans for a mix of apartments and townhouses to be built within the St Matthew’s character area of the Stretford Mall masterplan.
Earlier this year, JLL marketed the 2.4-acre site for sale, describing it as an “unrivalled opportunity to deliver high-quality residential accommodation within an already well-established and well-connected South Manchester suburb”.
The scheme will see THT deliver the first of 800 homes planned over the lifespan of the Stretford Mall project.
It is understood that Calderpeel Architects and Pegasus are advising THT on its proposals.
The wider regeneration of the ageing retail asset is being led by Bruntwood, in a joint venture with Trafford Council.
Trafford Council was approached for comment. Bruntwood and THT declined to comment.
The partnership last week won approval for the first phase of the Stretford Mall project, which features the removal of the shopping centre’s roof to re-establish the former King Street shopping thoroughfare.
A market hall, the refurbishment of the multistorey car park, and the creation of a public square also feature within the Bruntwood and Trafford Council’s plans.
The Stretford Mall overhaul, designed by Feilden Clegg Bradley, will benefit from almost £18m of Future High Streets funding.
