Thornfield lets Bury retail unit to Peacocks

Thornfield Properties has signed Peacocks to its £350m retail scheme The Rock in Bury.

The fashion chain is taking a 7,000 sq ft unit for an undisclosed sum.

The 1.6m sq ft mixed-use project is funded by HBOS, part owner of Thornfield, and is being built by the same Laing O'Rourke team that delivered Liverpool One for Grosvenor.

The Rock will feature 500,000 sq ft of retail, anchored by a 103,000 sq ft Debenhams and 77,000 sq ft Marks & Spencer, relocating from the Millgate shopping centre. Next, River Island, Pizza Express, a Vue cinema and AMF bowling centre have also signed up.

Jason Marcus, chairman of Thornfield, said: "Peacocks is a great addition to the line up at The Rock, with its fashion forward, great value designs. We are delighted to be in the position of being close to signing with a number of other major retailers and leisure operators and will have further announcements to make soon."

Simon Anderson, head of property at The Peacock Group, added: "We are continually looking for new stores for our Peacocks chain and we are pleased to be part of this exciting new scheme, The Rock, in Bury. We believe that our fashion and footwear offer will prove very popular with the young demographic in the town."

The scheme is due open in the summer next year.

CB Richard Ellis, GCW, Nick Green & Co are leisure agents on the scheme.
