Third Equation moves into Alderley Park

The R&D technology company has signed a lease for 6,400 sq ft of Bruntwood SciTech’s Alderley Park innovation campus in Cheshire.

Third Equation’s move signifies a major expansion for the firm, which has recently relocated from Edinburgh.

Glasshouse, a building at the centre of Alderley Park, will host Third Equation.

The move gives the company access to vital infrastructure, most notably a high-capacity energy supply for its operations.

Third Equation’s IP and innovative technology solution addresses the growing need for increased power capacity in the national grid.

Third Equation plans to use the site as a development and testing lab – taking advantage of Alderley Park’s full one megawatt grid connection, allowing the firm to replicate live grid connections for its research.

Additionally, Alderley Park will provide Third Equation with flexible lab space as well as office space.

Greg Dujon, chief executive of Third Equation, said: “During our strategic review, we sought to optimise every aspect of our business, including location.

“We created detailed criteria, focusing on key factors such as grid connectivity, access to talent, proximity to customers, transport links, sustainability, and a great working environment.”

He continued: “To justify the investment, we needed to meet at least 80% of these criteria. Alderley Park exceeded our expectations, making the decision to move straightforward.

“Today we’re enjoying the benefits, with customers visiting our campus and our ability to showcase our latest technology in real-world conditions within our lab.”

Bruntwood SciTech’s Cheshire campus hosts a cluster of more than 250 science, innovation, and technology-oriented businesses.

Other firms operating from the site include software developers SAP and cancer researcher CellCentric.

Mark Julian, associate director of commercial at Bruntwood SciTech, said: “We’re pleased to welcome Third Equation as a key player in our growing ecosystem.

“Our collaboration and expertise in designing their new lab has resulted in facilities tailored to support their success, demonstrating our commitment to fostering innovation in the sector.”

He added: “The infrastructure we provide, including access to the high voltage power connections and collaboration opportunities with other industry experts and potential collaborators, will enable them to develop and showcase their technologies on a larger scale.”
