TEP/Mersey Forest win Greening the City contract

Warrington-based environmental consultant TEP and not-for-profit company The Mersey Forest have been commissioned by Liverpool City Council to transform neglected open spaces around the city.

Under the Greening the City: Demonstration Projects initiative the pair will identify suitable under-used sites and draw up plans with local communities to improve the appearance and use of the selected plots.

The demonstration projects will help the council meet social, economic and environmental objectives in strategies including the Sustainable Communities Strategy and Healthy Weight: Healthy Liverpool 2008 – 2011.

Greening the City will also build upon recent publications such as Grey to Green CABE November 2009, which identifies the opportunity to realise the potential of sites for food production, water management, children's play and nature conservation.

The work will be completed in March 2011.
