Taste for new finishes drives James & Taylor growth
Specialist façade designer, James & Taylor, is forecasting a fourfold increase in turnover in the next five years on the back of a boom in hotel schemes.
Justin Price, regional director for James & Taylor, said: "This year we've seen huge growth with two of our products, Carea [glazed concrete panels] and expanded aluminium veil (EAV). Carea has been used on a number of large hotel and mixed-use developments throughout the North West and beyond.
"We're expecting a turnover nationally this year of £20m with £7m from the north of England and forecast that these figures will quadruple over the next five years as the market for Carea, EAV and our other façade products continues to grow."
James & Taylor recently completed the weather-beating façade for Manchester's new Crowne Plaza on Shudehill and the Malmaison hotel in Liverpool's Princes Dock, both designed by Leach Rhodes Walker. It has since secured work for Vermont's Ramada Plaza hotel at The Quarter and Novotel on Hanover Street, both also in Liverpool.
The company has also been invited to specify for the mesh walls for the exterior of the BBC buildings for Peel Holdings at Media City UK, Salford Quays.
Price added: "EAV is gaining an international reputation and we have used it in façade designs for New York's new Museum of Modern Art, and in London on the Young Vic Theatre and Stephen Lawrence Centre."
Among the firm's first prominent work in the North West was the interior of the Radisson Edwardian hotel in Manchester's former Free Trade Hall, followed by the Hacienda flats and latterly the metallic finish of the new Alan Turing Building on Upper Brook Street for Manchester University.
