Story names divisional boss

Cumbrian housebuilder Story Homes has appointed John Winstanley as strategic land managing director, heading a newly created business unit.

Winstanley, who has worked for the company for more than five years in a 15-year plus housing career, has been promoted from his position as strategic land & planning director..

He said: “We have three strong regional land & planning departments, supported by our strategic land business unit, who are all committed to identifying sites that are aligned with our high-quality homes.

“With great financial strength we are looking grow the business, working with landowners to secure and deliver land for new homes and mixed-use development across the North.”

Story’s operations are divided into three divisions, covering Cumbria & Scotland, the North East and North West England.

Chief operating officer Colin Wood said: “The land market is extremely competitive at the moment which is why our newly formed strategic land business unit will be imperative in securing some great options to sustain our long-term pipeline.”

The company is currently working on projects in places including Penrith, Workington, an 89-home scheme in Kendal, and phase two of its Waterside project in Cottam, Preston. Ex-Persimmon man Mark Cook joined as a non-executive director at the start of February.
