Stockport to back Bloor’s first batch of Seashell homes

The housebuilder is requesting consent to build 202 homes in Heald Green, returning to face the council’s planning committee for a second time after the proposals were deferred in May.

Bloor Homes’ deferred application, recommended for approval by Stockport Council’s planning officers, is the first phase of a project with outline consent for up to 325 homes.

The residential scheme is part of the controversial £45m redevelopment of specialist school the Seashell Trust, which won consent to build a new school at its Stanley Road site following a public inquiry last year.

The school project is to be part-funded by the sale of green belt land owned by the trust to Bloor Homes.

Following the approval of the Seashell Trust plans, Bloor lodged an application for the first tranche of housing in September.

The homes are proposed for land east of Wilmslow Road, with Bruntwood Hall Brook running north to south towards its eastern boundary.

Plans include 26 two-bedroom houses, 79 three-bedroom houses and 97 four-bedroom houses. A community orchard is planned within the open space.

A total of 57 of the houses are earmarked as as affordable: 29 rented and 28 on shared ownership. The land is undeveloped open pasture, with the Seashell Trust site to the south.

The proposal includes the spine road extension that will enable phase two.

Bloor’s application is recommended for approval when Stockport Council’s planning committee meets on Thursday.

I applaud building of much needed social housing but not on green belt land. There are still sites available that are not in Green Belt.
