Stockport County lodges plans for temporary roof to swerve fines and keep away fans dry

While the council has deferred a determination on plans for a bigger and better East Stand, the club is seeking permission to erect an interim roofing solution that will allow it to sell more tickets.

In order to comply with English Football League regulations, clubs must be able to offer 10% of their stadium’s total capacity to away fans. Of this, 20% must be covered.

At Stockport County’s Edgeley Park, the East Stand – or Railway End – is completely uncovered, which means the club regularly has to accommodate fans within the Pop Side stand in order to comply with regulations.

This means fewer tickets can be sold as whole, and the East Stand is often only partly full. For particularly busy fixtures when the East Stand is full, the club has been fined for non-compliance with the regulations.

As a result, the club wants to build a temporary roof over the East Stand so that it can offer the whole end to away fans and remain compliant ahead of the stand’s wholesale redevelopment.

As part of the plans, the existing scoreboard, located at the rear of the East Stand, would need to be elevated by three metres.

Asteer is advising Stockport County on the proposals.

Stockport often give a measly allocation to away fans. They can expect the same in return.

Why on earth aren’t the club and council working together to get the main application over the line rather than waste money on a temp roof?

Tinpot!!

That’s good but what about the disabled area in the main stand. Many vulnerable supporters there who get very wet when it rains xx

To CAFC my guess small time town..give it time..deal with it

Why the need for planning permission?…surely the council must appreciate the EFLs regulations..the club is trying to move forward…I doubt the council has invested much financial assistance in the owners attempts to improve matters…surely they could be more proactive to work with the club…lets move forward together!
A championship team will repay dividends to the area…have some vision!

Peter Smith- the council can’t wave planning consent for this project they’d be breaking the law.

I thought flats were going to be built on the land behind the East stand. Is this not happening now?
