Starboard buys hotel portfolio from Carillion

Hotel operator Starboard has purchased two sites in the North West as part of a wider acquisition of Carillion’s hotel portfolio.

Starboard has acquired the 102-bed Ibis Styles in Haydock and the Ibis Styles Crewe, a 112-bed property just off Crewe Green Road.

Along with the two sites in the North West, Starboard has also purchased a 117-bed hotel in Barnsley, and the 166-bed NEC Birmingham hotel.

The hotel portfolio was first brought to the market by Knight Frank over a year ago for offers in excess of £30m and Starboard has completed the purchase of all four hotels for an undisclosed sum.

Senior debt for the acquisition was provided by Bank Leumi, and all of the hotels’ staff will be retained as part of the deal.

The acquisitions increases Starboard’s portfolio to 19, which also includes the Windermere Manor Hotel in Cumbria. It operates hotels under a number of brands such as Accor, Best Western, IHG, and Wyndham.

Paul Callingham, managing director of Starboard Hotels, said: “This is a substantial acquisition for Starboard and an important investment in protecting the future of these hotels and the people who work there.

“The four hotels fit perfectly within our portfolio and represent a significant investment for our business.

“Individually, the hotels are in excellent geographic locations and further increase our presence in the UK hotel sector across the country.”
