Splash echoes New York with Tribeca housing scheme
Urban Splash has unveiled images and a name for its major housing-led project on Great George Street on the southern edge of Liverpool city centre.
The developer claims Tribeca will be the largest residential scheme ever in the city with over 700 new homes being delivered over eight years.
The development area covers five acres below the Anglican Cathedral and next to Chinatown. The site forms three distinct triangles, so Urban Splash put the phrase together Triangles Beneath Cathedral to create Tri-be-ca, Tribeca. The name is also handily the same as a fashionable district of New York.
Urban Splash is working with four architects on the scheme: Shed KM of Liverpool, Riches Hawley Mikhail and Alison Brooks Architects, both from London, and Austrian architects Querkraft.
Tribeca will include:
- 706 new homes including apartments and family houses
- 80,000 sq ft of new commercial office and retail space
- A new crèche
- New shops
- A new hotel
- An acre of private gardens for apartment residents
- Secure underground parking
- Two acres of new public space for everyone in the city to enjoy
Urban Splash is working with Maritime Housing Association and the existing residents of Great George Street on the creation of their new family homes. It is expected the first homes in Tribeca will go on public sale next year. Work is due to start on site in the spring.
