Southway lined up for Salford affordable apartments
Work on the Chapel Street project could begin this summer after the city council gave developer Mansion House final sign-off.
Southway Housing Trust is in line to manage the eight-storey development, according to documents lodged with Salford City Council by Mansion House.
Mansion House director Richard Peel confirmed talks with the registered provider about a forward funding deal are ongoing.
Salford City Council’s planning committee approved the project in September 2019 but a final decision notice was not handed down until February this year.
The scheme, designed by architect IBI, features a mix of one and two-bed apartments over eight storeys, along with 2,900 sq ft of commercial space on the ground floor.
Located next to Islington Park and English Cities Fund’s Atelier development, the apartment development is backed by finance from Together.
Plans were originally put forward for a nine-storey, 56-home scheme but these were cut back following feedback from the city council.
There’s no such thing as affordable apartments. Unless you’re lucky to have a council flat.

Why can’t the council build apartments for the homeless instead of money grabbing , not only would this help the amount of people that are on the streets ,plus they would be getting there rent rant over

Well, it’s a Housing Association so a bit more chance of them being slightly more affordable. Let’s hope the maintenance changes are too.
