Slater and Gordon moves to Liverpool city centre
Having been based at Brunswick Business Centre south of the city for more than a decade, the law firm is moving to Bruntwood SciTech’s Plaza in the central business district.
Termed a “rightsizing deal” by a source close to it, the transaction will see Slater and Gordon exit around 34,000 sq ft of ageing space and sign a 10-year lease on 8,300 sq ft in Liverpool city centre.
The Liverpool deal follows Slater and Gordon’s Manchester rightsizing. The firm exited 104,000 sq ft office on Mosley Street and relocated to 12,300 sq ft within The Tootal Buildings.
The two deals are indicative of how the way companies work has changed in recent years, particularly since the surge in hybrid working following the pandemic.
Alexander Leverett, head of workplace and facilities at Slater and Gordon, said: “Our relocation to The Plaza represents a transformative step in our commitment to both sustainability and creating a cutting-edge workplace for our colleagues.
“By optimising our space from 34,184 sq ft to 8,352 sq ft, we are driving meaningful reductions in our Scope 1 and 2 emissions and leading the way in improving carbon efficiency per employee.
He added: “This move is part of our broader vision to digitise our legal services and enhance agility across the firm. By empowering our people with greater flexibility, we are significantly elevating the workplace experience. The Plaza’s state-of-the-art amenities will further support our teams, and this strategic decision aligns seamlessly with our recent successful upgrade in Manchester, reaffirming our commitment to excellence in every location we operate.”
Andrew Gardiner advised Slater and Gordon on the deal.
Tony Reed, associate director at Bruntwood SciTech said: “The Liverpool region’s development into a vibrant tech-driven economy is plain to see. As innovators in what an otherwise very traditional sector, Slater & Gordon represent an important part of the city’s growth and transformation. We’re excited to be able to have them on board and contributing to what is a thriving innovation hub at The Plaza.
“Their arrival demonstrates how Bruntwood SciTech’s Liverpool ecosystem, including Cotton Exchange, Cotton House and The Plaza, offers unique opportunities and support for businesses of all sizes, from new start-ups to established industry players.”
Slater and Gordon’s relocation is one of the largest office transactions signed in Liverpool this year. The deal will provide a boost to the city’s take-up figures, which slumped to just 37,000 sq ft in Q2.
