Sizewell C launches 8,800 sq ft Manchester office

In a bid to attract talent from the North West’s nuclear sector, the company behind plans for the £38bn Suffolk power station has established a base at One New York Street.

Sizewell C has signed a 10-year lease on 8,800 sq ft at Royal London’s Manchester office building.

The idea behind the Manchester office – some 200 miles from the planned Sizewell C nuclear power station – is to tap into the North West’s substantial pool of talent in the nuclear sector.

Nigel Cann, joint managing director of Sizewell C, said: “By opening a new office here in Manchester, we can be part of the strong concentration of nuclear skills and experience here in the North and harness talent that might not otherwise have joined our project. And it’s another step in ensuring that Britain has the nuclear workforce it needs for the future.”

“Sizewell C is a project that will benefit the whole of the UK, not just by generating energy, but by delivering thousands of jobs, growth and economic benefits right across the country.”

The office launch forms part of a commitment to invest £2.5bn in the North over the lifespan of the project and use Northern suppliers including Exentec Hargreaves and Laing O’Rourke. To date, some £168m of contracts have been awarded to Northern companies.

Last month, the project announced a six-year supply contract with Urenco for the provision of enriched uranium services. This contract will help to support around 1,000 existing highly skilled jobs at Urenco’s enrichment site at Capenhurst near Chester according to Sizewell C.

Sizewell C last year signed a memorandum of understanding with the University of Liverpool and the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, committing to work together to help boost sustainability, skills and economic growth across the region.

So much for promising local jobs to the bundreds of unemployed in my area after gutting up and destroying an area of natural beauty which was essential to wildlife, including ancient oak trees. If people in tbe north west want jobs, take your hideous Sizewell 3 and stick it near Chester.

So the idea that you would employ local people is incorrect.
