Five teams led by architectural and landscape designers are still in the running to transform the Cumbria coastal lagoon into a nationally significant visitor attraction.

The competition kicked off in October, with Millom Town Deal Board joining forces with Colander Associates to launch a global contest to find the perfect design for the landscape.

The shortlisted teams, along with their submitted A2 design ideas, are:

The chosen five teams will have their designs showcased at a local exhibition. The teams have also been invited to visit the Iron Line site and been offered an honorarium of £5,000 +VAT.

Both a design approach and design delivery document will be submitted by the end of the month, with an interview with the jury panel in December.

The winner of the competition is slated to be announced on 17 December. The winner is expected to take the project through to completion, which would mean drafting a costed outline design by March 2022 and delivering the scheme by March 2026.
