Transport for the North has urged train operator Northern to present options for restoring rail services on the Lakes Line as soon as possible, calling for resumption of some kind by week five of the interim timetable period "at the very latest".


Start date set for £55m A500 upgrade

Cheshire East is aiming to have funding in place for its £55m upgrade of the A500 by the end of the year after it submitted a business case to the Department for Transport earlier this week, with the council aiming to start the project by spring 2020.

Highways England has chosen Costain for a £150m deal to convert a 10-mile stretch of the M6 between Woolston and Orrell to a smart motorway, covering Junction 21a to 26.

The first phase of construction of Liverpool’s new Cruise Liner Terminal has begun, with the arrival in the River Mersey of an overwater jack-up platform to begin site investigations on the bedrock on which much of the new facility will be built.
