ForHousing snaps up Manchester resi

The housing association is now seeking a contractor to build the 62-apartment Bowlers Yard scheme in New Islington, which it acquired from Fairbriar Hatbox.

Fairbriar, the joint venture led by developer and investor Scarborough International Properties, won planning approval for the 11-storey development in 2020.

The JV delivered the 144-home Hat Box and 261-apartment Milliners Wharf on neighbouring plots, and had previously planned to develop Bowlers Yard itself.

However, while work has progressed well at Middlewood Locks, the joint venture’s £1bn Salford regeneration project, no work has taken place at Bowlers Yard since the project was approved.

ForHousing acquired the plot, located on the corner of Pollard Street and Munday Street, in September and plans to start enabling works in January.

The main construction phase, valued at £12m, could begin in March, according to tender documents.

All of the homes are to be available for shared ownership and will be managed by ForLiving.

This part of Ancoats is hopefully going to see some rapid development. I’ve always been puzzled as to why there hasn’t been more development here.

Phwoar look at those balconies. Perfection

Agreed, one of the few schemes in Manchester where the provision of balconies seem to have slipped through the net without being rubbed out during pre-application stage.

These recessed, sheltered balconies are a great design. They will allow the use of the balcony in almost all weather all the while giving some shelter and privacy. Good job.👍

Agree that this design is a good one with lots of outdoor balcony space
