Salford approves university’s MediaCity campus

Peel L&P can now start transforming 11,000 sq ft of vacant office space into a new teaching facility for the University Campus of Football Business and the Global Institute for Sport.

The developer will convert four floors of the building next to Quayside shopping centre at Quay Plaza. The scheme will provide lecture rooms, seminar rooms, a study lounge, and staff facilities, with capacity for up to 410 staff and students of sports media and broadcasting.

Salford Council issued the decision notice granting planning permission for the MediaCity hub, designed by Chapman Taylor, on 16 February.

The site is UCFB and GIS’s fifth globally, with institutions in Burnley and Manchester, as well as London, Miami, and Melbourne.

Stephen Wild, managing director for MediaCity, said: “UCFB will bring a new and exciting media communications facility to MediaCity, which will inspire the next generation of talent.

“We’re looking forward to working with UCFB to help make their vision a reality.”

Alder King is the planning consultant for the project. Tetra Tech is the structural engineer and Harris Infrastructure is services engineer.

Salford City Council’s reference number for the application is 22/81014/COU.
