Sale B&M to be razed for flats
The store on Broad Road could be knocked down and replaced with 69 flats under plans being worked up by Ropley Properties.
An outline application for the site of Sale’s B&M Bargains is being worked up. DPP is advising on planning and Watson Batty Architects is leading on design.
Ropley Properties’ plans for the 0.8- acre site feature a five- to six-storey apartments block containing a mix of one- and two-bedroom flats.
Materialy speaking, the development would be primarily brick-built. A roof terrace is proposed as well as private gardens for the ground floor apartments. Some 22 parking spaces are also planned.
The scheme would be located close to Sale Metrolink stop and opposite the town’s leisure centre.
B&M has occupied the site since 2012. Prior to that the store was home to QS Fashion.

Demolished not razed! We are not in New York

Great to see, a perfect place for apartments in Sale.

It may be B&M and not M&S, but it’s a generally busy shop that helps drive footfall at that end of the town centre and meets a local need.
Would be good to see the developer help it to relocate as part of any new scheme, perhaps in the former Wilko in the precinct if that’s still available.

Great idea

22 parking spaces for 69 flats. That makes perfect sense.

Should be 0 parking spaces given proximity to Metrolink and buses. These expensive and outdated parking mandates are pushing up build costs, therefore making housing more expensive for everyone! If you want a car go and live somewhere else. We want clean, cheap housing

Don’t get you knickers in a twist Anonymous. The parking mandates are there to ensure the local streets aren’t over crowded with vehicles. Are you suggesting people shouldn’t be allowed to buy apartments in Sale if they own a vehicle? Deranged logic at it’s finest.
