Rochdale approves 30-bed Village Hotel expansion

Situated north of Waterfold Business Park and just outside Bury’s border, the 128-bed hotel is due a four-storey extension after receiving planning permission from the local authority.

The approval from Rochdale Council followed several design revisions, which saw the loss of an existing tower-like structure at the Village Hotel and the reduction in scale from 34 bedrooms to 30. The changes make for a more seamless link between the existing hotel and its new wing.

The four-storey extension was designed by Cube Architecture and Design. Its ground floor will be an open space with supporting pillars and external access to the hotel. The hotel rooms themselves will sit on the upper three storeys, with 10 set for each floor.

Building the extension will result in the loss of 12 parking spaces at the hotel and conference centre, meaning there will only be 359 bays for guests to park in.

The Village Hotel has been continually expanding over the past two decades. In addition to 128 bedrooms, it contains conference meeting rooms, a pub, a coffee shop, a gym, and a swimming pool.

Pegasus Group assisted the hotel owners on the application to Rochdale Council, providing planning, transport, and drainage advisory services. Ascerta was the project’s arboriculturalist and ecologist. Argyll Environmental conducted the contaminated land study.
