Resurrection plans for Blackpool’s Royal Carlton

Having changed hands earlier this year, the Promenade hotel is now the subject of multi-million-pound overhaul plans that could see it reopen next year.

Growth and Potential, headed up by John and Elishar Westhead, is drawing up plans to refurbish the 40-bedroom Blackpool hotel, which has been closed since last summer.

Growth and Potential acquired the building from Blackpool Promotions earlier this year. Blackpool Promotions also sold the Royal Boston and Royal Alexandra, to Compass Hospitality.

As well as work to upgrade all 40 bedrooms, the Carlton scheme would feature “a full reimagining of the bar and restaurant”, according to the landlord.

Subject to final planning approval, the newly refurbished Carlton Hotel is expected to reopen early next year.

“This is more than just a refurbishment,” said John Westhead, director of Growth and Potential. “It’s a long-term investment into the future of Blackpool’s tourism and hospitality sector.

“We’re proud to be restoring The Carlton Hotel to its former glory, with modern upgrades and a high-end finish that complements the town’s ongoing regeneration efforts.”

The landlord has now appointed Joseph Boniface Architects to draw up designs for a new-look venue.

“This is a fantastic opportunity to reinvigorate this prominent property on Central Promenade,” Boniface said.

“We have been tasked with creating a wholesale, high-quality new look for the hotel including designing the interiors for the restaurant and dining room, bedrooms, reception area and importantly the front apron, which will include a stepped terrace with integral seating, pergola structure with established planting.”

Very uninspiring design. Needs a redesign. And get rid of that horrid little turret. When I think of the beautiful modern style architecture of the 20s in some ressorts in the Uk and what we’re getting today..
