Redevelopment of Warrington’s former Brexit lorry park put forward
Avjon has submitted plans to build a 74,600 sq ft industrial unit on a site most recently used as an inland border facility to process HGVs in the wake of the UK’s exit from the EU.
The Warrington border facility, set up to process vehicles entering the country and ease the pressure on North West ports, closed in 2022.
Investor Avjon has now put forward plans for its redevelopment.
Buildings on the site in Appleton Thorn, which was once a coach park for the Shearings holiday park, will be demolished to make way for a single unit comprising 64,000 sq ft of industrial floorspace and 10,000 sq ft of offices.
The site is allocated in Warrington Council’s local plan for employment development.
The scheme is proposed to be occupied by vehicle fit-out firm Sortimo International, whose headquarters are already in Warrington.
Roman Sumner Associates and Martin Spencer Architecture are advising Avjon on its plans.
