Rebrand and refurb for Beetham Tower Hilton

IHG Hotels and Resorts has announced the 264-room hotel, which sits within the 47-storey Manchester landmark, will be rebranded as an InterContinental by 2027.

The hotel in Beetham Tower has operated under the Hilton brand since it opened in 2006. IHG has struck a deal with the building’s owner Blue Manchester Hotel to bring the InterContinental brand to Manchester for the first time.

Beetham would be the fourth UK InterContinental. Two of the other three are in London with another in Edinburgh.

IHG is planning a comprehensive refurbishment of the Manchester hotel’s 22 floors.

Willemijn Geels, vice president of development in Europe for IHG Hotels & Resorts, said: “The signing of InterContinental Manchester – Deansgate marks a significant milestone in our UK&I development strategy as we bring the world’s first and most iconic luxury hotel brand to an important city in the UK.

“The landmark signing further strengthens IHG’s luxury and lifestyle portfolio in the UK and perfectly complements our Kimpton Clocktower property — reinforcing our position as the leading luxury hospitality player in Manchester.”

A spokesperson for Blue Manchester Hotel, which is headed up by Christopher Christou and Lambros Hadjiioannou, said: “This transition marks the beginning of an exciting new chapter for this iconic Manchester hotel.

“We are delighted to be collaborating with IHG Hotels & Resorts to reposition the property as an InterContinental hotel—one of the most prestigious brands in global hospitality. The transformation will be supported by significant investment to enhance the guest experience and elevate the hotel to a new standard of luxury. We are confident this next phase will further strengthen the hotel’s reputation as one of the city’s premier destinations.”

What a 12 months. W, Nobu and now this. As the 3rd most visited city after london and Edinburgh I’ve always thought one of the final missing pieces for Manchester was some proper 5star hotels. Hopefully some more to come. 4 seasons, Ritz Carlton and Shangri-la would be nice.

Oh wow, fantastic news! I really hope IHG do a good job of the high-level illuminated signage on this iconic building – it’s been somewhat lacking for years since the original Hilton signs failed and were never replaced for some reason.

Hopefully we’ll finally see the refurb of the exterior (all those missing window trims!) amongst a super refresh of the interior.

Also, who knows if this will lead to a new Hilton elsewhere?

Exciting times!

As I once sang, Manchester is “moving on up” the market value chain.

Let’s hope all guests have “one night in heaven”!

Exterior cladding needs to be changed and upgraded. Looks very dated.

Well that’s a good thing. Manchester’s hotel offerings have been trending ever upwards and I guess when that new W hotel at St Michael’s opens the bar will be raised higher still. They definitely had to do something .

Someone needs to address the outer facade in certain light it looks like a tower of broken windows

Heather, let’s hope that the refurbishment can make us feel proud.
