Rampant Lidl cracks on with Croxteth plans
The expanding retailer has applied for permission to knock down a former fire station to pave the way for a store on the corner of Storrington Avenue and Lower House Lane.
Lidl consulted on its plans for the Croxteth Community Fire station site earlier this year.
Now, the firm is looking to prepare the site for development with a planning application expected in the coming months. It is understood that Lidl plans to sell the remainder of the site for housing.
News of progress in Croxteth comes the week after Place North West revealed Lidl had acquired the former Taskers site in Edge Hill.
Lidl also secured approval for two new stores in Manchester last week, one in Moston and one in Rusholme.
The discount supermarket chain is growing at pace, taking advantage of the cost of living crisis impacting many in the UK.
Lidl currently has 983 stores nationwide including four more close to the former Taskers site. These are in Kensington, on London Road, on Lime Street, and on Edge Lane.
The chain is growing rapidly across the country with a target of 1,100 over the coming years.

Good to see activity but why can’t Lidl have a development partner that can work with the retailer and have joint plans ready to be on site building the shopping element and housing at the same time.
Also would to see them re-thinking and actually putting the supermarket underneath a 4-5 storey block of flats, thus making better use of the land instead of their normal single-level shop.
