Quwwatul Islam puts in for Preston community centre
A lorry storage site would become a 22,400 sq ft indoor recreation facility with a separate, secluded Janazah room to its rear, according to plans designed by Cassidy + Ashton.
Quwaatul Islam Preston Muslim Society’s proposed community centre and sports hall would complement its nearby education cebtre and mosque in Preston.
The two-storey facility would sit on an irregular half-acre site at 46 Deepdale Mill Street. It would house separate community halls for men and women, as well as toilets, reception, multipurpose sports court, changing rooms, kitchen, and an office as well as the Janazah – a special space used for funeral prayers.
Outside, there would be a five-a-side 3G football pitch.
The plot, which was most recently occupied by Loomis Security, features a small two-storey office block that would be demolished. Most of the site is a car park, with lorries being stored there presently.
There would be 17 car parking spaces provided through Quwaatul Islam’s plans, which envisions the facility being used primarily by members of the local community who would arrive by foot. There would also be 42 spaces available for overflow parking at the society’s education centre.
In addition to Cassidy + Ashton, the project team includes drainage and transport consultant PSA Design, land contamination assessor Demeter Environmental, ventilation expert Northern Light and Sounds, and Bowland Tree Consultancy.

Community Center for just one community, call what it is.

Why do Reform snowflakes get so triggered at the mention of Islam. Get a life James

James – so what if it is? I will never go to a church community centre, but don’t begrudge them doing whatever they do 😉 – also, it’s in Preston, so would be a Centre, not a Center.

I think you’ll find that one of the most highest profile Reform UK politicians, Zia Yusuf, is a Muslim.

It’s like university where there are numerous societies, if you are interested and want to join a specific society no one is stopping you, and if you have nothing good to say James then don’t say anything, find a society you like and join that. Similarly with these communities centres.

You can hire the space if you want, so it would be open to any Prestonian. Looks like a good development for that area.
