Prima scopes Wirral waterfront for 605-home ‘skyline’
An EIA scoping report concerning the residential development of 5.5 acres at Rose Brae has been lodged with Wirral Council.
Stantec’s EIA indicates Liverpool-based housing association Prima Group is courting the vacant brownfield plot for 605 apartments, which would be designed by JDA Architects.
Under the Birkenhead 2040 Framework, Rose Brae has been identified as a plot suitable for four blocks of higher-density housing.
In addition, the adjacent Woodside Masterplan earmarked Rose Brae as a location which “could use height to create a new waterfront identity” and a “skyline in keeping with Birkenhead’s character”.
Proposals suggest the tallest building could rise more than 70 metres from the north east corner of the site, accommodating approximately 20 storeys.
The site sits off Church Street and slopes down to the River Mersey’s edge, where it meets the Wirral Circular Trail footpath.

Plans for a footway and cycling through-route to the footpath have also been floated.
Further details regarding scale, access, and designs for the scheme are yet to be revealed.
Robbie Mannion, development programme manager at Prima Group, said: “A detailed planning application is being finalised and the recently issued scoping document seeks guidance from planners about the environmental impact of our proposals and is only a small part of the process.
“We have carried out public consultation and held meetings with local groups and welcome people giving us their feedback.
“We recently had a pre-application meeting with Wirral Council, which we are awaiting feedback on and then a full, detailed application will be created and submitted as soon as possible.”
