Preston City Council plans new energy framework

Preston City Council is seeking a construction partner to supply and install combined heat and power units at the Town Hall, as well as West View and Fulwood leisure centres.

The combined heat and power units, also known as cogeneration plants, will then generate both electricity and heat for the buildings, as a form of energy recycling.

Companies can submit applications for one or both lots that are available. The first lot is for the supply, installation and maintenance of three combined heat and power units, which Preston City Council will purchase and own. The second lot involves the supplier installing two combined heat and power units at its own cost and Preston City Council will then only pay for the electricity that the units generate.

The estimated total value of purchases for the entire duration of the framework agreement is £600,000.

The council said the contract will last for ten years but did not disclose a starting date.
