Preston affordable housing scheme set for approval

Countryside’s reserved matters application for 68 homes off Sidgreaves Lane is expected to gain approval at Preston’s planning committee on Thursday 9 January.

The entirely affordable scheme would sit across 3.21-acres bounded by existing developments to the south, with access coming from Canberra Lane.

The site is located within the Cottam Strategic Site, which is earmarked for future developments.

It is not part of the proposed Cottam Hall Brickworks scheme, a 200-home scheme by developer BXB Cottam Properties, a joint venture between Cottam Hall Properties and BXB Land Solutions. However, Countryside’s development forms part of a wider mixed-use scheme that will include 1,100 homes and was granted outline planning in 2013 with revised consent gained in 2017.

The agent for the site is Lichfields, and the scheme is designed by Countryside’s internal house design and build arm.

A Countryside spokesperson said: “Subject to use receiving the planning permission, we hope to start work on the new development as soon as possible to bring forward new homes that help fulfil local demand for high quality affordable housing.”

Developer Countryside works nationwide, and sometimes operates in the North West through its Partnerships division.

State of that site plan. Cul-de-sacs galore! What happened to proper urban planning and architecture? Actual streets, with townhouses and attractive frontages. Places people aspire to live in.
