Pochin, Citybranch begin hospital construction

Joint venture partners Pochin Property and Citybranch have started construction work on Altrincham's new £13m general hospital.

The 75,000 sq ft hospital in Railway Street is being developed for Central Manchester University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Pochin Construction is the contractor for the scheme.

The hospital will have four storeys above basement parking. Facilities will include a minor injuries unit, outpatient consultation and treatment rooms, physiotherapy suites, X-ray room, ultrasound and blood testing services, in addition to staff offices, meeting rooms and welfare facilities.

The development will replace the current Altrincham Hospital, which dates back to the 19th Century.

John Moss, chief executive of Pochin, said: "The development of a new Altrincham Hospital is of great importance to the surrounding area, and we're delighted that the partnership has been able to secure the delivery of additional space for local patients."

Adam Gross, director of Citybranch, said: "Our partnership with Pochin has proved extremely positive and it is gratifying to have reached this point. This has been a project that has been in the pipeline for many years and we are excited to witness the next stage of the development."

Pochin Property is managing the delivery with Beaumont Lord as employer's agent. Aedas Architects designed the building and Capita Symonds is providing structural, civil, mechanical and electrical engineering services.

The hospital is expected to open in 2015.
