Plans lodged for £23.6m iSH Enterprise Campus sheds

The Industrial Solutions Hub will provide a base for Cumberland Council’s push to build on the region’s nuclear heritage and deliver economic growth programmes centring on robotics, manufacturing, and digital opportunities.

Two sheds totalling 66,500 sq ft, an investment of £23.6m, would be built on a 12-acre plot at the Leconfield Estate in Cleator Moor if permitted.

The wider £50m iSH programme has support from the government through Town Deal and Levelling Up programmes and strategic partners, including the Nuclear Decommissioning Authority and nearby Sellafield.

Morgan Sindall is expected to build the units for Cumberland Council, according to planning documents.

The Leconfield Estate is one component of the 43.5-acre Cleator Moor Innovation Quarter, which is set to be home to a business cluster to diversify the region’s economy away from dependency on Sellafield.

Avison Young assisted Cumberland Council with its application for the units, which NORR Architecture has designed.

Gary McKeating, managing director of iSH, said: “This is an important milestone, and we’re pleased to see the development progressing through to fruition.”

Solmek, BGP, Tetra Tech, OFR Consultants, One Environments, Curtins, and Miller Goodall are all on the project team.
