Plans in for Shankly helter skelter
Liverpool-based hotel group Signature Living has applied for planning permission to erect a 100ft chrome helter skelter down the side of its Shankly Hotel.
The idea of a slide as part of the hotel development was first revealed in 2015, but according to Signature was shelved in order to “streamline the process” in delivering a rooftop venue known as Eden. However, a spokesman said “we’re now in a place where we can pursue the slide once more”.
The themed hotel opened in 2015, and features memorabilia honouring football manager Bill Shankly.
A rooftop extension completed at the end of last year, and was built without planning permission, as the designs changed while under construction. Planning consent was granted retrospectively.
A Signature Living spokesperson said: “Signature Living has applied to erect a tubular slide at the Shankly Hotel.
“As per the original plans, the slide forms part of the hotel’s new Eden offering – a wedding, conference and bar venue that makes innovative use of the hotel’s rooftop space.
“It’s an exciting, unique offering in Liverpool that will tempt more people to engage with the Signature brand. Money raised from the slide will be given to The Whitechapel Centre, Signature Living’s new charity partner.
“Signature Living is aiming to raise £500,000 a year for the organisation, which is the region’s leading homelessness charity.”
Will you be able to buy guaranteed rental income sections of the slide?

Should go lovely with other things in that area like the caterwauling drunkards Sweeneys bar are allowed to blast into Williamson Square all day, every day. A definite ‘thumbs up’ from big Joe and the council must surely therefore be in the offing?

I must say, much as I worry about the increasing stag/hen vibe of Victoria Street and the Cavern Quarter, I love the idea of the slide – joyous! Liverpool is just a different kind of city.
