Plans in for Hodder resi towers
CS Developments and Renaker Build have submitted a planning application to Manchester City Council for 282 residential apartments over two blocks in Cambridge Street as part of the Macintosh Mills redevelopment.
The developers propose to build two apartment blocks containing a mix of one-, two- and three-bedroom apartments. Block A would be a 28-storey block comprising 157 apartments, while Block B would have 21-storeys with 125 apartments. Plans include a 1,700 sq ft commercial unit as well as basement parking for 75 vehicles, and additional public realm space, designed by Planit IE.
The project is part of the wider Macintosh Mills area next to First Street, between Whitworth Street West and the Mancunian Way. The first phase of this, which involved the conversion of two mill buildings and Vulcan House, has already been completed.
The development site was subject to pre-recession proposals with the name Grand Central but the scheme, by Asquith Developments, stalled.
The latest project has been designed by Hodder & Partners. The planning application was submitted by Deloitte Real Estate on behalf of CS Developments.
In a planning statement submitted accompanying the applicant, agent Deloitte said: "The proposals represent an important opportunity to regenerate an undeveloped site that does not currently contribute to the city centre and economic heart of the city region in the way that it should given its prime location."
"[The apartments] will deliver much needed new residential development taking into account Manchester's projected economic and population growth estimates. Without new residential development in the places people want to live, such as the city centre, Manchester will not be in a position to fulfil its economic growth potential or increase its overall productivity level."
Cheap and nasty looking proposal

Yup! Once again a perfect example of the difference between ‘building’ and Architecture. Might as well stick two cardboard boxed with windows drawn on them. Does anyone of these overpaid ‘professionals’ of this self congratulatory club of talentless ‘ developers’ ever actually consider how thier pet projects actually look in the wider landscape? Of course they don’t. The irony is the proximity to the Manchester School of Architecture ( inc Landscape Architecture – ever heard of that guys?)campus at MMU. At least they can look out of their windows at a perfect example of how not to do it..again. "Oh Manchester – so much to answer for!"
