PLANNING | Resi dominates agenda in Liverpool
Liverpool City Council’s planning committee is set to give consent to the construction of almost 400 flats in prominent locations across the city, including near to St Luke’s Church and off Wolstenholme Square.
Ahead of the meeting on 7 June, planning officers have recommended six projects for approval.
Renshaw Street
In a staggered building of between five and eight storeys, CityLife Developments is planning to build 74 flats on Renshaw Street, within sight of the St Luke’s bombed out church.
CityLife is a joint venture between Frensons and Jamworks, which bought the plot from the council last year.
The site was previously occupied by Kwik Fit and a collection of derelict buildings.
The scheme was designed by Falconer Chester Hall.
Duke Street
On Duke Street, a Falconer Chester Hall-designed scheme involves building an eight-storey building around four grade two-listed Georgian townhouses, which are partly derelict.
Henry Space Development, a subsidiary of London-based privately owned property Minton Group, is behind the project of 150 apartments.
The scheme will involve part demolition, repair and remodeling of the existing properties on the plot, with the new build element ranging between four and eight storeys.
Seel Street
A 42-bedroom aparthotel has been proposed by Elliot Group, the developer bringing forward the redevelopment of Wolstenholme Square, on a car park site off Seel Street.
The £20m boutique hotel also includes a rooftop terrace, and ground floor restaurant uses.
The architect is Falconer Chester Hall.
Park Court
At Park Court on Park Street, a former care home site which was left derelict is to be redeveloped under plans by developer Graham Clarke.
The cruciform block will be made up of 30 flats with associated parking, and was designed by Blok Architecture.
West Derby Road
In another scheme designed by Falconer Chester Hall, Oakmere Services is proposing the demolition of a former petrol station and car repair garage, to make way for a block of flats.
The site on West Derby Road will total 39 apartments.
Devon Street
On Devon Street, AMA Development Company, based in Edinburgh, is set to build a development of up to eight storeys which will feature 48 flats, providing 166 bedrooms for student accommodation.
Designed by A2 Architects, the application is a replication of one which gained planning consent in 2013, but expired.
Good to see a more and more residential projects in Liverpool, what’s next more commercial with a bit of luck?

Validation criteria must be a bit lower in Liverpool. Manchester and Salford would be expecting high quality CGIs for schemes like this!

An absolutely awful scheme by the bombed out church. No consideration for the surroundings or its prominent position in the city.
