Pillars picks Truman for Preston job

The developer has appointed Truman Design & Build as main contractor for Urban Hub, a 425-apartment student accommodation scheme on the UCLan campus.

At the start of November, Pillars secured consent for PR1, a £50m scheme comprising 294 flats in four blocks in Preston city centre.

Urban Hub is to be a six-storey building of 160,000 sq. ft, containing 425 self-contained studio apartments, private outdoor spaces, gym, restaurant, cafe, cinema, prayer room, laundry room, library and a landscaped roof terrace.

Demolition work on the Sizer House building, currently used as UCLan offices, is scheduled to begin in the next few weeks. Pillars said full construction will begin soon after by Bolton company Truman.

A Pillars spokesperson said: “Trumans have a proven track record of delivering high-quality, award-winning projects and we are very pleased to have appointed them to deliver our Urban Hub project. Trumans Design & Build have exceeded our expectations with a collaborative approach to cost, program and quality-driven mindset.

“The Urban Hub ticks all the boxes. It will attract students looking for comfort and class on the one hand, whilst also bringing recurring returns to investors at an affordable price point, and in a totally hands-off manner.”
