Pier Head statues to be restored for canal scheme

Prestwich masonry firm Stone Central has been awarded a contract to move and restore three statues from their current position in front of the Three Graces.

Balfour Beatty Civil Engineering has appointed the Stone Federation GB member to transport the three bronzes and their plinths from their waterfront home to Liverpool's Conservation Centre while work continues on the extension to the Leeds-Liverpool canal.

The statues will be restored whilst at the Conservation Centre, and the plinths will also be stored there before being rebuilt later this year.

The £17m Liverpool Canal Link scheme will extend the canal by 1.4 miles so that it will end at the South Dock instead of the Stanley Dock.
