Persimmon gets green light for Wigan housing

Wigan Council’s planning committee has approved a reserved matters application from Persimmon Homes to build 150 homes on land to the east of Pocket Nook Farm, Lowton. A quarter of the homes will be affordable housing both for rent or sale.

The development includes public open space areas including a wetlands area, a play area and parks. Through a section 106 agreement Persimmon Homes will contribute towards a road marking scheme and the maintenance of the parks and play areas.

Cllr David Molyneux, deputy leader and cabinet member for regeneration, said: “This is brilliant news for the borough and means things can get started on site. It can take time to get to this stage and to get things really moving forward so this is a great step.

“It is vital that we support appropriate housing development in the borough to keep up with demand and help support growth in our local economy. It’s also important we keep providing affordable homes so a range of people are attracted to our borough.”

Outline planning permission for the site was granted in January 2016.
