Permission for £40m Perspex production centre
Blackburn with Darwen Council’s decision allows the plastic manufacturer to extend its production facilities at its Chapels Park Plant, situated off Goose House Lane in Darwen.
As part of a wider £40m investment, a 13,000 sq ft polymerisation hall and energy centre will be erected on an adjacent one-acre site to Perspex’s existing facility.
Designed by Corstorphine & Wright, the scheme aims to condense the firm’s operations into one location, which is about four miles south of Blackburn town centre.
The additional space will help Perspex reduce its environmental impact as well as streamline processes. The A666 runs alongside the production centre.
As well as a more expansive manufacturing space, a workshop, storage, and a dispatch room are included in the plans.
It is expected the polymerisation hall and energy centre will employ eight additional staff.
Perspex International has always been based in Lancashire, manufacturing its patented acrylic locally since 1934.
Clancy is the principal engineering consultant on the scheme.
