Permission due for Chester care home

Cheshire West & Chester Council is set to approve CLS Care Services’ plans for a 72-bed Belong care home, designed by Pozzoni, on the outskirts of Chester city centre.

The one-acre site is located on City Road and is within the Chester City Conservation Area. A four-storey vacant office building occupies the site and is set to be demolished under the proposals.

The application proposes a mixed-use scheme in a five to six-storey block, involving a 72-bed care home and a 23-bed extra care facility. Other uses include an exercise studio, spa, library, hairdressers and laundry for residents; and a bistro and community venue for public use.

The scheme will operate under CLS Care Services’ Belong format, which offers purpose-built villages providing care and extra-care to residents.

Pozzoni has worked with Belong to develop similar villages in Macclesfield, Wigan, Crewe and Atherton.

The council is due to consider the application on Tuesday 9 May with a recommendation to approve the plans.
