Peel cuts ribbon at £7.5m Hythe

The developer’s 25,000 sq ft office development at Wirral Waters has been officially opened.

Representatives from Wirral Council, the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, Merseyside Pension Fund and Wirral Met College attended an event to officially open a building Peel L&P described as a “next generation”’ business hub, located in the Four Bridges neighbourhood.

Designed by Glenn Howells Architects, the 25,000 sq ft building was handed over by contractor GMI Construction in December.

The project had previously been billed as No. 1 Tower Road South and is the first new office building in Birkenhead in a decade. The Combined Authority provided £3m for the development.

Peel said that Hythe’s construction has met its BREEAM target rating of ‘Excellent’ with features including photovoltaic panels, electric car charging points, cycling facilities, and future provisions for bike charging points.

Richard Mawdsley, director of development for Wirral Waters at Peel L&P, said: “The success of Hythe is testament to the collaboration and partnership working of everyone involved, from our talented students and the local contractors who have been engaged in delivering the project, to our funders and construction partners.

“Hythe is a key part of the high-quality, sustainable urban neighbourhood that we are creating at Wirral Waters and it will provide a catalyst for economic growth in the area by providing high quality office space that will enable local businesses to expand.”

Well done everyone for putting your trust in the Wirral. Outstanding work and we’re proud of you. Now let’s build more…

A good start for the re-emergence of Birkenhead and the “Left Bank” of the Mersey, and there`s more to come. Hopefully we see a few taller buildings of about 20-25 storeys,so those from the Liverpool side can view the new Wirral landscape.

Is that an expensive build at £300psf?
