Join Place North West and specialist regeneration and property development company U+I at this special event on Tuesday 5 June, exploring the next era of city growth, through innovative design, strong communities and 21st century connectivity.

This half-day conference will use U+I’s plans for the 24-acre Mayfield site as a platform for wider debate, examining how place making and a strong sense of shared public-private purpose can deliver economic and social benefits for cities by creating a dynamic mix of occupiers for both homes and offices, with innovative workspaces, thriving leisure and retail, and well-loved public realm.

The ambitious vision for Mayfield, delivered by U+I, LCR, Manchester City Council and Transport for Greater Manchester, includes a new city park, offices, homes, retail and leisure, incorporating the vast former Mayfield depot.

The event, set in Fairfield Social Club within the Mayfield arches, will be a provocative discussion where key players in the regeneration and design industries will engage with entrepreneurs and policy-makers on the issues facing UK cities, with critical thinking on how to shape the next phase of city growth by using best practice from the UK and beyond.

The conference takes place from 8am with an 8.30am start to proceedings, with breakfast, refreshments, and lunch included. Food will be provided by Manchester’s premier street food event company, Grub.

The event will be a mix of panels, presentations, and ‘in conversation with’ interviews, from:

  • Matthew Weiner, chief executive, U+I Plc
  • Richard Upton, deputy chief executive, U+I Plc
  • Joanne Roney, chief executive, Manchester City Council
  • Stephen O’Malley, founding director, Civic Engineers
  • David West, founding partner, Studio Egret West

The event will be chaired by Jessica Middleton-Pugh, editor of Place North West.
