Overbury delivers for Music Magpie

The interiors specialist has completed an eight-week office fit-out for Music Magpie at Stockport Exchange, where the online retailer has taken 10,000 sq ft on the first floor.

Music Magpie is relocating from Hazel Grove to the scheme, delivered by Muse with Stockport Council. Over the years, the business has grown from an online marketplace for buying and selling CDs and DVDs to also offer services for mobile phones and tech goods.

Philip Westwood, director at Overbury, said: “We were tasked with creating an inspiring, agile working environment that would help attract and retain the best talent in the region. These new offices were a significant leap for the company and so key to the brief was the need to ensure the workspace stayed in line with the company’s culture.

Westwood said that features such as the graphics were integral to the overall design, with references from iconic Manchester acts being worked into the project, along with Pacman and Space Invaders, reflecting the company’s gaming offer.

Music Magpie’s chief executive Steve Oliver said: “Manchester and Stockport have become a hotbed for growing tech companies and so competition for the best employees is fierce. Relocating to Stockport Exchange ensures we provide a great working environment for our existing and new staff as well as helping to attract the best talent.

“Moving to Stockport Exchange has definitely been the right decision for the business. Overbury has worked closely with us to create an environment which sits well with our business.”

Transport operator Stagecoach signed for 33,000 sq ft at the 50,000 sq ft Exchange, agreeing a 15-year lease in April this year.
