Outline permission granted for 75 Middlewich homes

Cheshire East Council voted eight to one in favour of approving the outline planning application from Blok UK on Wednesday.

The 9.5-acre site is off Centurion Way, north-east of Middlewich town centre.

The 75-home plans were drawn up by C4 Projects.

The application is complicated as the site sits across the boundary of Cheshire East and Cheshire West and Chester Councils. Approximately 67% of the land is within Cheshire East’s boundary, while 33% is in Cheshire West.

As such the project has been split into two phases.

Phase one, the development of 75 homes on the Cheshire East side has been approved yesterday.

Phase two, a further 20 homes, remains to be approved by Cheshire West and Chester Council.

Across both schemes, the housing mix will have 52 two-bed houses, 24 three-bed homes and 19 four-bed properties.

Zeroing in on the Cheshire East outline application, around 22 of the 75 homes would be affordable.

Eight councillors voted in favour, one against, and there were two abstentions during the meeting on Wednesday.

Cheshire West and Chester Council will now need to confirm the other application for the project to move forward.

Stantec is the planner for the Blok project. Air and Acoustics, Mode Transport, Patrick Parsons, Urban Green, and Collington Winter are also part of the project team.

Ridiculous to give permission. Middlewich is already being strangled by traffic. We NEED the BYPASS 1st, then schools, doctors, dentists, leisure centre so there’s something for the young to do and a decent transport link, buses and a train station. Planning have got to stop putting a strangle hold on Middlewich and make sure we have the infrastructure in place 1st in order to deal with the amount of extra traffic and people that will descend on Middlewich.
