Osborne visits Booths Park as US firm signs

US-owned medical supplies giant Medline Industries has moved its European headquarters from Manor Point in Runcorn to Bruntwood's Booths Park, Knutsford.

Chancellor and local MP George Osborne visited the site on Friday and welcomed the company to the new base. The business park was the venue for a meeting of Cheshire MPs and councillors.

Medline signed a 10-year lease on 7,000 sq ft at Booths Park 5.

Osborne said: "It's great to see another big international business choosing this part of Cheshire as a home for new jobs and investment. Medline are a welcome new neighbour."
Medline is a $5bn turnover company based in Illinois which manufactures and distributes healthcare and surgical products.

Luke Fryer, managing director of Northern Europe at Medline, said the move would support the firm's expansion plans. He said: "Booths Park will be the headquarters of our North Europe operation with our UK sales team, customer service operatives, finance, procurement and other back office functions based here. We are in expansion mode at the moment and this area has the right demographic for any future recruitment.

"Booths Park is unlike any other commercial property in the area. The entrance, the old hall and the courtyard areas, and the customer service from Bruntwood's reception staff are all very impressive when welcoming clients and makes for a nice workplace for our employees. We have a lot of international customers and one of the reasons we selected the development because it is ideal for Manchester Airport and the motorways. It's good for staff with parking and catering on site, and we were impressed with the customer service we received from Bruntwood and the development is close to Knutsford which itself is a great little town."

Nice to see Osborne putting positive spin on major downsizing by Medline coming out of 130,000 sq ft distribution centre in Runcorn – now moved to Europe – and making 50 staff redundant, keeping a handful of office staff
