On site for final St Petersfield phase
Work has started on a 240-space multi-storey car park at St Petersfield in Ashton-under-Lyne, Tameside as part of the final stage of the business quarter development.
Huber Car Park Systems International will deliver the construction and operate the scheme.
The car park project is being directly procured by Tameside Council, and is funded by the Department of Business, Innovation & Skills and the Homes & Communities Agency.
The first phase of development at St Petersfield was 1 Henry Square, which comprised two office buildings at 48,000 sq ft and 40,000 sq ft, alongside public realm works. A second phase of development was completed in 2011 and included the Tameside Enterprise Centre for Tameside College and a mix of apartments and houses for New Charter Housing Group.
Alongside the car park development, the final phase will see the £3m redevelopment of Ashton Old Baths by PlaceFirst into a business centre. The baths were sold by Ask Developments earlier this month.
Cllr Kieran Quinn, executive leader of Tameside Council, said: "We're now one step closer to realising our aspirations for a dynamic new business quarter at St Petersfield. Once completed, the new car park will provide much needed parking in this expanding businesses quarter as well as paving the way for the final phase of development – which will bring more jobs and business opportunities."
