Oldham’s head of regen departs for Bury Council

Roger Frith has joined Bury’s local authority as interim head of land and property after eight years at Oldham Council.

Frith joined Oldham Council as head of strategic regeneration and development in 2014. During that time, he oversaw several large projects including the £32.5m conversion of the Old Town Hall into a cinema.

In recent years, he headed up the team responsible for winning £40m of government funding through the Towns Fund and Future High Streets Fund.

Oldham declined to comment on Frith’s departure but it is understood he left as the result of a restructure.

He now joins Bury Council on a six-month contract to support and accelerate its disposal strategy. He will report to executive director of place Paul Lakin.

A statement from Bury Council confirmed the appointment:

“Roger is with us on an interim basis (six months) covering the head of land and property role pending permanent recruitment. He’s replacing an existing member of staff who has moved internally to another role.”

Major pipeline projects in Bury include:

  • The redevelopment of the 22-acre East Lancs Paper Mill site into 400 homes
  • The regeneration of Prestwich’s Longfield Centre in partnership with Muse Developments
  • The mixed-use redevelopment of Mill Gate in partnership with Bruntwood.
